3rd Day Navratri | Worship Devi Chandra ghanta

3rd Day Navratri:

Navratri 2024 brings the opportunity to adorn yourself in vibrant Navratri dresses, especially the traditional Navratri chaniya choli and Ghagra choli for the festive dandiya dance. The third day of Navratri is devoted to Devi Chandra ghanta, the third manifestation of Ma Durga. She is known for her half-moon (Chandra) on her forehead, shaped like a bell (ghanta), and her golden radiance. This ten-handed goddess holds weapons to vanquish evil and bestows blessings with her tenth hand. Devotees seek her forgiveness and blessings for enduring strength and an obstacle-free life.

Origin and History

According to legends, after Sati immolated herself in the yagya Agni, she was reborn as Parvati, the daughter of Parvatraj Himalaya. Parvati married Lord Shiva, who arrived with his Aghoris and ghosts to take her along. Her family was terrified by this sight, but Parvati transformed into Goddess Chandra ghanta, requesting Lord Shiva to assume a more charming form. She also calmed her family and erased their unpleasant memories. Since then, Devi Parvati is revered in her Chandra ghanta avatar as the goddess of peace and forgiveness.

Customs and Rituals

Devotees worship Devi Chandra ghanta for her serene power to eliminate evil. The rituals begin by worshiping all the gods, goddesses, and planets in the kalash, followed by prayers to Lord Ganesha and the entire family of Ma Durga. The pooja concludes with worshiping Ma Chandra ghanta, and finally, Lord Shiva and Brahma.

Color and Attire for the Day

Yellow is the color for this day, symbolizing devotion and energy. Devotees wear yellow outfits while performing rituals, even though the goddess herself drapes a white saree representing peace and forgiveness.

Women’s Navratri Outfits:

A yellow salwar kameez made of Georgette, paired with colors like black, cream, or magenta, is a popular choice. For those preferring indo-western styles, a yellow kurti paired with leggings or jeans offers a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. Accessorizing with oxidized jewelry, self-embossed kadhas, and designer shoes or handbags enhances the festive look.

Men’s Ethnic Wear: Men can opt for a cotton kurta paired with yellow pyjama, combining comfort and style for the Navratri festival.

Celebrate Navratri 2024 with these traditional Navratri outfits, perfect for participating in dandiya dance and embracing the festive spirit of the Navratri festival.
